April is Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Awareness Month, and we’re taking a moment to honor Dr. Raquel Gardner, who is spearheading efforts for early detection.
Oftentimes, TBI patients receive normal MRI or CT scans, showing nothing out of the ordinary. TBI can cause certain invisible symptoms like fatigue and subtle changes in personality that may last for weeks or even months, but not enough to warrant investigation. For these reasons, TBI and concussions are so hard to detect, and accurate, early diagnosis is critical.
Thanks to Dr. Raquel Gardner, this diagnosis is getting easier. One of her discoveries is a simple, noninvasive blood test that can quickly confirm and diagnose TBI by identifying the presence of a blood biomarker – a test that’s already saved the life of one of her patients, and has the potential to save so many more.
