Prof. Yael Peled is the Director of the Heart Transplant Service and Heart Failure Hospitalization Unit at Sheba Medical Center. She is a national and international leader in heart transplantation. In Israel, she rewrote the rules for heart transplantation that resulted in a 50% increase in successful heart transplants nationally. Internationally she is the first Israeli asked to sit on the Board of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation and considered the foremost global expert in Covid, vaccines and heart transplantation.

Eldest daughter of Holocaust survivors Sala and Max Webb (long time friends of Sheba Medical Center), Chara was born in Germany after her parents were Liberated from the Nazi camps.
When she was five, the family of four (Chara’s sister, Rose, was born the year before) immigrated to Los Angeles. When Max and his brothers-in-law David and Nathan Shapell’s Real Estate development firm flourished, the family moved to Beverly Hills, where Chara attended high school. She studied Art History at UC Berkeley, earning both undergrad and graduate degrees, which sparked her lifelong interest in art. Chara Schreyer became one of the world’s leading collectors of modern and contemporary art. Her collection of over 600 works spans masterpieces of the 20th century to emerging 21st century artists.
Based in San Francisco and Los Angeles, Chara was committed to philanthropy in Art, Education and Health. She published two esteemed books: Art House, a book chronicling her homes and collection and Making Strange: The Chara Schreyer Collection, a study of her collection featuring essays by leading curators and scholars. She leaves behind her husband Gordon, her sister Rose, her daughters Justine and Natalie, and grandchildren Jordan, Evan, Zoe and Yelli. She will be missed.Read Less
